Overview
A week on safari gives northern Tanzania room to breathe. This itinerary includes Tarangire, Lake Manyara, two full Serengeti days and Ngorongoro, with a pace that allows wildlife viewing to remain the focus. Throughout the day, the emphasis remains on unhurried observation and making the most of what is happening in the area at the time. Wildlife experiences are never identical from one visit to another, so flexibility is valuable. Your guide can respond to current conditions while keeping the overall itinerary on course, giving you time to enjoy animal behaviour, birdlife, scenery and the quieter moments that often become memorable parts of a safari.
Day by Day Itinerary
Explore Tanzania through a carefully planned journey combining wildlife, landscapes and comfortable accommodation. The day is deliberately paced so there is time to appreciate the experience between the major sightings as well as the wildlife itself. Your guide can adjust the rhythm according to conditions on the ground, allowing longer stops when an interesting encounter develops and moving on when appropriate. This creates a more natural safari experience, with opportunities for photography, observation and simply taking in the changing landscapes rather than treating the route as a fixed timetable.
Day 1: Arusha – Tarangire
Begin with a morning departure from Arusha and a full game drive in Tarangire National Park. Follow the river corridor and explore the surrounding baobab woodland and open country. Overnight in or near the park. This part of the journey is kept flexible around the practical requirements of your travel arrangements. Your local team will manage the transfer and timing so that you do not need to rush unnecessarily. Depending on where this falls within the itinerary, the remaining time can be used to settle in, rest, prepare for the next stage or simply take a moment after travelling. The intention is to provide a comfortable transition while keeping the overall program organized.
Day 2: Tarangire – Lake Manyara – Karatu
After breakfast, travel toward Lake Manyara and spend the central part of the day on safari beneath the Rift Valley escarpment. The compact park provides a contrasting environment to Tarangire. Continue to the Karatu highlands for overnight. The journey is treated as part of the overall experience rather than simply time spent moving between two points. As the scenery changes, you gain a broader impression of the landscapes connecting the different areas on the itinerary. The pace remains comfortable, with suitable stops made when needed, while your guide manages the practical details of the route. This helps the travelling portion of the day feel relaxed and connected to the safari rather than separate from it.
Day 3: Karatu – Serengeti
Drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area toward Serengeti National Park. Enter the Serengeti and game drive toward your accommodation, allowing plenty of time for sightings along the route. Although part of the day is spent travelling onward, the route continues to add context to the journey as the surroundings gradually change. There is no need to treat the transfer as a rushed section of the itinerary; instead, it provides time to observe the countryside and understand how the different destinations fit together geographically. Your guide handles the route and timing, allowing you to settle into the journey and arrive prepared for the next stage.
Day 4: Serengeti National Park
Spend the full day exploring the Serengeti. Your guide will use local conditions and recent wildlife activity to choose the most productive areas. The schedule can include an early start, picnic lunch and long afternoon game drive.
Day 5: Serengeti National Park
A second full Serengeti day allows you to explore farther without feeling pressured to move on. Wildlife encounters are never guaranteed, but extra time increases the opportunity to observe behaviour rather than simply collecting sightings.
Day 6: Serengeti – Ngorongoro
Enjoy a final Serengeti game drive before travelling into the Ngorongoro highlands. Arrive near the crater for dinner and overnight.
Day 7: Ngorongoro Crater – Arusha
Descend into Ngorongoro Crater for an extended morning and early-afternoon game drive. After a picnic lunch, climb out of the caldera and return to Arusha.
